Choosing Bartholomew Barn for their summer wedding, Nicky and Alex celebrated with a glorious seasonal garden party.
With a June wedding date in mind, Nicky and Alex were looking for a beautiful country wedding venue where they could enjoy an intimate, garden party style celebration with live music. Visiting Bartholomew Barn, they knew they had found the setting for their special day.
The gardens really sold it to us. We also loved the fact that it was truly rural and surrounded by fields. – Nicky
Planning an idyllic country wedding, Nicky and Alex styled their day around the pinks and creams of the glorious flowers in season. Creating an ‘English country garden’ look, the focus was on these beautiful blooms, the garden flowers and the pond with a floral theme running through the stationery and wedding favours.
Pretty table arrangements, candelabra, and aisle flowers adorned Bartholomew Barn.
The ‘save the date’ had a hint of pink and so did my dress underlay. My love of seasonal flowers like peonies, ranunculus, dahlias and roses continued the colour scheme. – Nicky
Nicky was stunning in a gown by Stella York with a hint of pink and a lace overlay.
I loved the cut-out back and the pale pink ribbon which trailed down the skirt. - Nicky
She accessorised with a crystal hair comb by Jon Richard, sparkly shoes by Peter Kaiser and her mother’s wedding ring.
Meanwhile, Alex looked the part in a navy suit from Moss Bros with grey waistcoat, navy tie and pocket square.
Following their romantic ceremony, a drinks reception was held in the walled garden at Bartholomew Barn, accompanied by a two-piece acoustic duo.
An exquisite summer wedding breakfast commenced with bruschetta, paté and peach and mozzarella salad, followed by Beef Wellington and, for pudding, a trio of desserts.
The dessert trio was incredible – a mini lemon tart, pecan pie and chocolate truffle! – Nicky
After seeing a cake creation online that combined a macaron tower with a classic wedding cake, Nicky was on a mission to recreate it!
A good friend’s mother made the incredible cakes and alternated the flowers with tiers of macarons. The end result was an absolute show-stopper and totally unique.” – Nicky
As day turned to evening, the newlyweds danced their first dance to ‘The Wonder of You’ by Elvis Presley and a five-piece band delighted the guests and filled the dance floor.
Having live music absolutely made it for us. We were relieved that so many people were on the dance floor! – Nicky
A traditional Ploughman’s proved to be a popular choice for evening dining.
I had said to the caterers how I would love to weave Sussex in to the menu somehow. The incredible cheeseboard had Scrumpy Sussex, Brighton Blue and Sussex Brie with fresh figs, chutney, grapes and bread. – Nicky
“When our puppy, Sam, made her entrance for the evening. It made it for us that we could have her with us on the day.”
“Ellie from the Events Team was just great on the day, from the minute I arrived in the wedding car – even making sure that Alex and I had a quiet moment in the summerhouse with a glass of Champagne following the ceremony.”
